FIND
Find an object that carries traces of Japanese craft.

DOCUMENT
Record the as-found condition, markings and measurements. Assign a permanent RJ number.

RESEARCH
Investigate context and sources. Separate reading an inscription from identifying its maker.

RESTORE
Assess necessary interventions and record the work performed. Never assume undocumented restoration.
- 05
PRESERVE
Respect the object's marks and history. Preserve its record when ownership changes.
ATTRIBUTION CONFIDENCE
Marks catalogue
A confirmed brand–company relationship does not authenticate an individual vintage object, its maker or its age. Those findings belong in the object's own record.
