04 / Research & provenance

RESEARCH NOTES

  1. 01

特製鍛造 (tokusei tanzō) is a production designation meaning “special forging”, not a smith’s name.

  2. 02

The bolster bears 121. The current catalogue lists 300 mm gyuto as No. 115 and uses No. 121 for 240 mm sujihiki. The number’s meaning on this knife remains unresolved.

  3. 03

Another hand engraving on the bolster may be a personal mark; its reading and origin are unconfirmed.

PROVENANCE

The owner supplied dimensions of 430/300 mm and weight of 309 g. Previous history, interventions and handle originality are undocumented.
